I realize I have been gone from blogging for quite awhile. I made a trip to the east coast (Pennsylvania) to spend 3 weeks with my mother in law and my father in law. I am sure there are people that would think I am crazy to do such a thing but they are such wonderful people and I love them both so very much. There are a number of reasons why I am making trips to stay with them for extended periods of time (in late September I went up for 5 weeks).
Dad turned 90 this past September and Mom will turn 90 this coming October. They both are in pretty good health for their ages. Dad has a few health issues that are being monitored on a regular basis but that info is for another blog entry. While there I do a number of things to try and make their lives a little easier. I wash clothes, do light housework, cook, grocery shop and most important of all I am a companion and sounding board for Mom.
I have 2 sister in laws that live in this same town and another good thing I am able to do while there is give them a break from having to supply Mom and Dad with meals, take them to doctor appiontments and just worry about Mom and Dad in general!

Last Thursday night I had the opportunity to go out with my sweet daughter to see and listen to a band. It was so much fun. We arrived about 20 minutes before the band started and I had the chance to talk to one of the guys in the band that I have known for over 20 years. He (the band member) also had a chance to see and talk to Erin. I do not think he has seen Erin since her wedding so they had a nice a short visit. We ordered a sandwich and fries to share and stayed for one set. By then it was almost 10pm which was past both our bedtimes. I really had such a great time and look forward to sometime soon going out with Erin again!

On Fridays Chris and I try to have a "date night". Last Friday when Chris got off from work about 3:30 we went to the Ft Worth Botanical Gardens because the weather was so beautiful. (middle 60's in temp). As beautiful as the weather was the gardens were somewhat grey. Not too many things were blooming but it was peaceful and nice to walk around. From there we went to my favorite place to shop. Central Market ~ I love, love, love that store. We actually got out the door under $20. For me that was a miracle, but Chris being with me had a lot to do with that!!!!
We went to the mall so I could look for a purse (I am a little picky about the purses I own) and I was very disappointed with the selection. Following that we went to a burger place Chris had read about in the paper near TCU. It was wonderful. We split a patty melt and an order of onion rings. We will be going back there sometime in the near future.
We ended the night like we do most nights ~ me sitting in the chair downstairs on the computer and Chris watching TV from the chair in our bedroom.
We were up early Saturday morning because we had a soccer game to attend in Keller at 8AM. Sweet Brooklyn had a game and we did not want to miss that!
It was a great weekend all around.

Holiday Season is Over !
The holiday season is officially over now that the first of the new year has arrived. The candy making and cookie baking is done now until Thanksgiving 2012 arrives. In some ways I am very sad about that and in other ways very happy. I love, love, love to cook and to bake ~ the problem with all that is I love, love, love to EAT too!
Having had gastric sleeve surgery in December 2010, it is difficult for me to eat all the things I have grown to love eating. (Hence "The Fat Nana"). I have lost 65 pounds but know the doctor would like it to be more. I would too but have come to learn that the mind is so very powerful.
I think at this time snacking is my downfall. For the new year my snacks need to be more healthy.

The Beginning
I am very new to this but because my daughter thinks it would be a great idea for me to do some blogging I am willing to give it a try.
